Favorite Summer Music 2013

I made a playlist on Groove-shark this summer that I listened to nonstop. It consisted of everything from Train to Sara Bareilles to Miranda Lambert, The Script, Lady Antebellum...anyways, it's a large mix of artists. A few of my favorites are Just So You Know by Jesse McCartney, Near to You by A Fine Frenzy, Turning Tables by Adele, and We Both Know by Colbie Calliat. But my favorite song this summer is called Wherever You Will Go by Charlene Soraia. I am learning it on the piano right now and I am absolutely in love! Have a listen:

Artist Review: BOY (bonus: free music!)

As I was perusing Noisetrade, -a site that you NEED to check out if you haven't already- I saw a link to a group called BOY, and since I am judgmental and I judge by the look of the album art, I was intrigued.

It looked whimsical and unique, so I gave them a listen, and completely fell in love. They have a sunny, warm, relaxing feeling. It makes me feel like driving around with the windows rolled down during sunset. They have that sweet, lazy feel to them. You don't need to overthink their lyrics, just enjoy them for what they are: a simple spinning of everyday life.
By far, my favorite song of theirs is Little Numbers.
Here's what iTunes has to say:
"'Little Numbers' is like the common cold: contagious and passed from friend to friend. The song's simple conceit- reveling in the warm feeling after collecting a crush's phone number- bounces to a spry indie folk beat and is filled with hand claps, woah-ohs, and daydreams created by seven digits."
Couldn't have said it better myself.
I love her voice, because it's right in my singing range. So of course I sing it all the time!
I definitely give this song a 5 out of 5.

And.... Guess what?? It's free on Itunes this week only!!! You NEED to pick it up. It's so definitely worth it.

If you follow this blog you have probably discovered that the Singing Midget and myself are really bad at keeping things up to date. I have a few new favorite songs right now and they are both beautiful. One is heart breaking and the other one just makes me happy. Hope you like them.

Song Review: Love Actually

ARTIST: Cady Groves
GENRE: Pop
DATE RELEASED: Jun 29, 2012
THOUGHTS: As the beginning of the lyric video clearly states, this song is for every girl who's been hurt by a guy. Cady Groves expresses that with expert ability, giving us a song that makes you want to belt it out and shout out to every time you've had your heart broken. The pleading tone tugs at your emotions, while at the same time the catchy music makes you want to throw your hands up with reckless abandon and dance. A good summer song, or anytime you decide to take a listen. ;^) Her girlish tone gives this song a feeling of innocence, even though the lyrics describe a heartbreak that can pretty much be universal.
OVERALL RATING: 5 out of 5, because it pretty much describes the life of every girl who's gotten her heart smashed. (myself included!)
**Sidenote** If you go to this website and type in your library card number/PIN number, you can get this for free! And it's legal, to sweeten the deal.

Song Review: Homeward Bound

I have been really bad about posting on here, but today I thought I would give you guys a good Sunday song.

Written By: Marta Keen Thompson
Sung By: The Mormon Tabernacle Choir
Date Released: May 21, 2005
Thoughts: Lately I have been thinking of this song a lot. It is a story of life's journey. There comes a time in everyone's life's when you need to be set free and find your way through life. What this song teaches, is that you are never alone, there is someone who is always going to be there for you. So, go have fun, learn and grow from the trials and tribulations you are going to have in this life, but remember to come back home.
Overall Rating: 5 out of 5

Song Review: Primadonna

ARTIST: Marina and the Diamonds
GENRE: Alternative
DATE RELEASED: March 23, 2012
THOUGHTS: This is a super dancy, fun song! I was kind of surprised it fell under "alternative", because I would have pegged it as pop, but that's irrelevant, really. The lyrics are bratty, but fun, and I LOVE her unique, deep voice! It's different, but in a good way. The music video is also really fun, too. I love the retro feel.
OVERALL RATING: 5 out of 5. I can't get enough of this song!
